ach month we pose questions from the Sun Coast Community to our resident health and beauty expert, Dr. Mark Rosenberg.
In this August edition of 'Ask Me Anything,' Dr. Rosenberg reveals why popular hair-thickening shampoos make thinning WORSE...
How to fill up your plate at a summer BBQ and still lose weight...
And the cleanser ingredients that age mature skin faster–and what to use instead.
Question 1: "Is it true volumizing shampoos make hair thinning worse?"
I hear this question a lot from patients suffering from thinning hair.
Because 9 times out of 10, they’ll go overboard on "volumizing" shampoos… hoping their hair will suddenly double in thickness.
Then, a few weeks later, they come to see me when their hair gets thinner instead.
Here's what I tell them:
Hair thickening shampoos contain chemicals that coat each strand.
These chemicals do make hair appear thicker…
But only in the short-term.
What’s worse, these chemicals seep into the scalp…
Clogging the hair follicles and stopping them from producing healthy hair.
Here’s what you need to do instead:
Address the ROOT cause of thinning hair follicles, rather than the thinning hair itself.
Thankfully, there’s a way to do it at home and increase hair growth as much as 46%.

Question 2: "How can I lose all the BBQ weight while still enjoying my favorite foods?"
Summer BBQs are one of life's great pleasures.
The only downside is stepping on the scale the next day.
Here's the good news: You don't have to skip summer BBQs if you want to lose weight.
The key lies in making smart choices and portion control.
When you're at your next BBQ, try these 5 strategies:
-
Choose lean meats like chicken breast, fish, or lean cuts of beef over ultra processed burgers.
-
Load up on grilled vegetables - they're filling, nutritious, and naturally low in calories.
-
Limit how much sauce you use. BBQ sauce, ranch dressing, and mayo can add hundreds of calories.
-
Take smaller portions of high-calorie sides like potato salad and coleslaw.
-
Go for a walk after eating. This helps your body burn the extra calories instead of storing them.
Here's my best tip of all…
If you want to lose weight while STILL enjoying BBQ, and all your favorite foods…
Improve your gut’s ability to digest food rather than get clogged up with waste.
How?
There’s a Korean gut health hack that converts your gut from a fat factory into a fat burning furnace.
One of my patients tried it and lost 34 pounds with ease.

Question 3: "Which cleanser do you recommend for mature skin?"
This question comes up constantly in my practice.
And no wonder…
Mature skin requires a completely different approach to cleansing than younger skin.
Here's why:
Mature skin produces less natural oil and has a more delicate skin barrier.
Which is why using harsh cleansers, formulated for younger skin, contain ingredients that can cause your skin to become dry, irritated, and crepey looking.
The worst offenders include:
Sulfates - These create a pleasant foamy lather but also strip away essential moisture.
Denatured alcohol - This dries out your skin and can cause intense irritation.
Cationic and ionic surfactants - These disrupt your skin's natural pH balance.
Physical exfoliants - They risk causing micro-tears that trigger breakouts.
Strong fragrances - Notorious for triggering sensitivity and inflammation.
Instead, if you have mature skin, use a gentle cleanser that removes makeup and impurities without disrupting the skin barrier.
If you’d like to try a cleanser specially formulated for mature skin…
A cleanser that leaves your skin feeling clean but never tight or stripped…
And it also enhances the results of Total Package Serum, and all your topicals…
