Each month we pose questions from the Sun Coast Community to our resident health expert, Dr. Mark Rosenberg.
In this May edition of ‘Ask Me Anything', Dr. Rosenberg addresses these three pressing health and beauty concerns:
What’s causing the "Ozempic feet" outbreak among celebrities…
How to repair “leaky gut” for a healthier, clearer looking complexion…
And the alarming discovery of microplastics in the human brain, and how to flush them out.
Question 1: "I heard “Ozempic feet” is a side effect of weight loss jabs. What causes it, and should I be worried too?"

It’s the latest shocking side effect filling up gossip magazines and social media feeds.
I’m referring to photos of celebrities with wrinkly, bony looking feet– dubbed "Ozempic feet” due to its link to overuse of weight loss jabs.
What's the connection?
As you know, weight loss jabs suppress your appetite and can trigger significant fat loss.
Yet it’s not just visceral fat buried around the stomach which gets burnt away.
It’s also “subcutaneous fat” which sits just beneath the skin’s surface.
Along with being visible on the thighs (as cellulite), hips, and arms, this layer of fat sits on the tops of your feet.
When you lose subcutaneous fat too fast, your skin’s elasticity may not adjust quickly enough. You then get saggy, wrinkled looking skin.
The feet are especially vulnerable because they carry a lot of water weight. And the skin on our feet has less elasticity than other body parts.
Is having skinnier feet dangerous?
Medically, no.
However, if you're using weight loss jabs, and are concerned about side effects like this, consider these approaches:
-
Drink at least 8-10 glasses of water daily to retain water weight
-
Take an elastin supplement to sustain your skin’s elasticity
-
Apply a serum containing hyaluronic acid on areas showing signs of sagging
-
Discuss with your doctor about slowing down your weight loss pace
Remember, there’s always a risk of skin laxity issues when you lose weight too fast.
The key is finding the right balance between achieving your weight loss goals and maintaining your skin's supple, tight appearance.
In fact, I’ve seen so many patients eager to lose weight yet without damaging their skin’s elasticity, I developed a new technique which targets the subcutaneous fat on your thighs, stomach, and arms.
Except this technique helps TIGHTEN the skin’s appearance in those areas at the same time.
This technique doesn’t involve appetite suppression, injections, or high intensity workouts. Yet it helps you lose 2 inches off your waist in a matter of weeks.
I’m going to share this technique with the Sun Coast Community in a few weeks.

Question 2: "Is “leaky gut” to blame for wrinkles and dull skin?"

The connection between “leaky gut” and your skin’s appearance is a fascinating topic.
And the short answer is yes: “Leaky gut” (known scientifically as “intestinal permeability”) can accelerate wrinkles, dull skin, and sagging.
Here’s why:
When your gut lining becomes damaged, it allows undigested food, toxins, and bacteria to "leak" through and enter your bloodstream.
This triggers a cascade of inflammation throughout your body.
One of the effects of this inflammation is skin redness, irritation, and accelerated breakdown of collagen and elastin (the proteins responsible for skin firmness and elasticity).
Yet when you address the causes of “leaky gut”, and improve your gut health, the results show on your skin within weeks: A clearer, healthier looking complexion and fewer visible wrinkles.
In fact, the health of the gut is so vital to your skin’s appearance I often refer to it as the “Beauty Biome".
It’s also why I've developed a technique for replenishing the “Beauty Biome” with healthy microbes.
The best thing about this technique is it doesn't involve eating platefuls of fermented foods (an acquired taste, to say the least).
And it takes only 30 seconds at breakfast.

Question 3: "I heard we now have the same amount of microplastics in our brains as a plastic teaspoon. Is this true?"
I’ve been hearing this question a lot in my clinic.
And it originates from an alarming study published in the Nature journal.
In the study, researchers collected samples of human brain tissue from people who died in 2024.
And they were shocked to discover the brain samples contained about 4,800 micrograms of plastic per gram of brain tissue.
Which, when expanded to the entire brain, weighs about the same as a plastic spoon.
Even more concerning…
The concentration of microplastics in the brain samples was up to 30 times higher than in kidney and liver samples.
And when comparing brain samples from 2024 with those from 2016, researchers found a 50% increase in just eight years.
What does this mean for your brain health, memory, and future independence?
While research is still evolving, it’s thought the buildup of microplastics could disrupt how your brain cells communicate… increasing the risk of memory loss.
We have to face facts—we can't completely avoid plastics in modern life.
Yet what you can do is take practical steps to minimize your exposure:
-
Use glass or stainless steel containers for food storage
-
Avoid heating food in plastic containers
-
Filter your drinking water
-
Reduce use of single-use plastics
-
Choose natural fiber clothing over synthetic when possible
A bonus tip is to try a technique my colleague, Dr. David Sisskind, developed.
It’s a Nobel prize backed technique which helps address the buildup of ALL toxins in the brain, and helps manage the inflammation they cause.
The best part is it works FAST.
People who’ve tried it say they enjoy a clearer, sharper brain and faster memory recall in as little as 15 days.
