Ask Me Anything - How to Slim Down without Dieting and A Technique for Calming Stress at Bedtime

Each month we share questions from the Sun Coast Community with our resident health expert Dr. Mark Rosenberg. And he provides his insights on how to make smart choices for your appearance and health.

By February, lots of people have given up on their New Year’s diet, leaving them lost and frustrated at how they’ll ever lose the holiday pounds.

Luckily, there are three “diet free” ways to lose weight, and keep it off.

In this month’s “Ask Me Anything” post I also share a technique for calming stress at bedtime, so you can enjoy a deeper night’s sleep…

And how you can enjoy a firmer, younger looking neck, without the risks or expense of surgery.

Question 1: How can I lose the holiday pounds without feeling hungry and deprived?

The holidays have passed, but many people still carry the extra pounds as a reminder.

If you want to lose the weight without feeling hungry, here are my top 3 tips on how to slim down “diet free”:

1. Don't Skip Breakfast

Skipping breakfast is one of the worst things you can do when trying to lose weight.

Why?

Because skipping breakfast causes your body to go into starvation mode. This then slows your metabolism to a crawl, while triggering intense hunger and cravings.

Try these breakfast options to feel full and energized all morning:

  • Oatmeal with almond butter and berries
  • Veggie omelet and avocado toast
  • Greek yogurt with chia seeds and papaya

2. Snack On Protein

I always tell my patients the key to sustainable weight loss isn’t calorie restriction, but making smarter food choices.

One smarter food choice is to eat protein rich snacks, rather than snacks high in fattening sugars and carbs. Eating a high protein snack will keep you feeling fuller for longer while stabilizing blood sugar.

Great protein snack options include hard boiled eggs, turkey slices, a slice of cheese on wholemeal bread, Greek yogurt, or a handful of nuts.

3. Go for Daily 30 Minute Walks

I’ve yet to meet a patient happy to sweat buckets on a treadmill each day.

So what I recommend they do instead is go for daily walks.

You can start small, with 10 minute strolls. And then build up to 30 minutes as your endurance improves.

To make it more pleasurable, consider walking with a friend, listening to a podcast, or turning it into a game by tracking your steps each day.

Question 2: At night I lie awake worrying about one thing or another. Is there anything you recommend that will help me sleep?

I see lots of patients whose stress and racing thoughts sabotage their sleep each night.

The good news is there are simple, natural ways to de-stress at bedtime, so you can fall asleep faster and enjoy a deeper night’s rest:

1. Power Down Devices

There’s a reason why poor sleep has become an epidemic: Our phones!

“Doom scrolling” through social media, the latest fear inducing news, or plowing through work emails is the worst thing you can do at bedtime. All of these things overstimulate your brain, and release stress inducing hormones. It’s then impossible to relax and drift off to sleep.

So make sure you turn off all devices at least one hour before bedtime, and put them out of reach of your bed. Reach for a good book instead to wear down your last reserves of brain power.

2. Use A Meditation App

There are some excellent bedtime meditation apps to help calm an overactive mind. Many of my patients recommend apps like Calm, Headspace and Insight Timer.

Listening to a 10-15 minute guided bedtime meditation right before getting into bed calms your brain waves, while lowering stress so you can fall asleep faster.

3. Calm Your Brain with Apigenin

Chamomile tea has long been a natural sleep aid. And now scientists know why.

See, chamomile tea contains an antioxidant called “apigenin”. And apigenin is where chamomile gets its mood calming benefits from. This is because apigenin calms key receptors in your brain, helping to lower stress and induce sleep.

In combination with chamomile tea, I also recommend taking a capsule of
BioLuna.

BioLuna contains ingredients that calm “sleep blocker” chemicals at bedtime, which otherwise keep your mind racing and your body tight.

I recently discovered that the sleep inducing benefits of BioLuna are even better when it’s combined with vitamin D.

For this reason, we recently ran a promotion where you can claim a FREE bottle of D3 Shield with every bottle of BioLuna.

Well, we wouldn’t normally do this…

But as we’ve just received a new shipment of D3 Shield, I’m going to reopen this special offer until midnight tonight.

Here’s an exclusive link to claim a FREE bottle of D3 Shield when you try our world class BioLuna formula for your deepest night’s sleep in years:

Question 3: How can I firm up crepe neck skin without the risks of surgery?

Saggier neck skin is an inevitable part of aging… as levels of elastin and collagen in the skin decline.

I get lots of people asking me if getting a neck lift is a good idea. To whom I say neck surgery is not just expensive and risky, but it also has to be repeated every few years as your neck skin gets saggy again.

The good news is you can enjoy a firmer, smoother neck without risks of going under the knife.

Here are my top tips for lifting and tightening crepey neck skin:

1. Massage With Oil

Using your fingertips, massage your neck each morning with an antioxidant-rich oil like jojoba, olive or coconut. Massaging improves blood flow and stimulates collagen.

2. Use Gua Sha

This ancient Chinese technique uses a smooth jade stone to “scrape” the neck. It breaks down muscle tension to tighten up slack neck skin.

Always lubricate skin with oil first and go slowly to avoid irritation.

3. Apply Complete Neck Cream daily

Complete Neck Cream is a rich, nourishing cream that melts right into your skin, tightens saggy jowls, turkey neck, and a wrinkled-looking upper chest. And it delivers a visible smoothing effect in just five minutes.

Complete Neck Cream is also the world’s only topical specially formulated to reverse “transdermal breakdown” - which our research revealed to be the #1 cause of saggy neck skin.
