Ask Me Anything - The Low Fat Food Myth, Firming Droopy Eyelids, and How to Tell if Fish Oil is Rancid

Each month we pose questions from the Sun Coast Community to our resident health and skincare expert, Dr. Mark Rosenberg.

In this May edition of 'Ask Me Anything', Dr. Rosenberg discusses the shocking truth about "diet" and "low-fat" food labels…

Natural ways to firm droopy eyelids…

And what to check when buying high-quality fish oil, to avoid picking up a bottle that’s gone rancid:

Question 1: "My eyelids are droopy, and give me this sad, depressed look. Should I get eyelid surgery?"

Droopy eyelids, or ptosis, can make you appear tired, sad, or older than you feel.

While eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) can be an effective solution, it can cost $10k or more, and it carries all sorts of risks.

Here are some natural ways to firm eyelids I recommend you try instead:

1. Perform facial exercises that target the eyelids, such as gently lifting your eyebrows and holding for 5-10 seconds.

2. Apply cold compresses to your eyelids for 10-15 minutes a day to reduce puffiness and improve circulation.

3. Get enough sleep and stay hydrated to minimize the appearance of tired, droopy eyelids.

These natural approaches can be effective, but they all take time to show results.

Another option is Complete Eye Serum.

Complete Eye Serum is specially formulated to address multiple aging eyes at once, and it works so fast you can enjoy younger looking eyes in just 5 minutes.

Question 2: "Is it true that eating foods labeled 'diet' or 'low in fat' are actually making me fat? If so, why do they have these labels? Is it a food industry trick?"

When foods are labeled "diet" or "low in fat" it is indeed misleading.

The food industry uses these labels as a marketing tactic to appeal to health-conscious consumers.

But while they may be lower in fat, Big Food companies have to add another ingredient to improve the taste: SUGAR!

And due to the amounts of sugar that gets added, "diet" or "low in fat" foods are actually more fattening than the full fat versions.

Additionally, “diet” and “low in fat” labels create a false sense of security, and can cause you to eat more thinking it’s safe to do so.

My advice - Stick to whole, unprocessed foods whenever possible, and practice portion control to manage your calorie intake.

But if you struggle to restrict how much you eat at mealtimes, I recommend taking AMPAlive just before meals.

AMPAlive is specially formulated to activate the AMPK enzyme, which acts like an “ON” switch for your metabolism. When AMPK is “ON” more of the sugars and carbs you eat get directed to your muscles to be burned as energy, rather than stored around your waist as fat.

Question 3: "I've heard fish oil is great for my skin's moisture and reversing sun damage. But how can I tell if a fish oil is high quality, or has gone rancid?"

Fish oil can indeed be beneficial for skin moisture, reversing UV sun damage, and for loose, flexible joints.

But the quality of fish oil varies wildly.

Here are three tips to ensure you're getting a high-quality fish oil:

1. Check the source: Look for fish oil that comes from wild-caught, cold-water fish like salmon, mackerel, or sardines.

2. Find out how it was processed: Choose fish oil that has been molecularly distilled or CO2 extracted to remove impurities and minimize the risk of rancidity.

3. Check for third-party testing: Look for fish oil that has been independently tested for purity and potency.

By following these guidelines, you can ensure you're getting high-quality fish oil that will provide the maximum benefits for your skin and joints.

These are guidelines I followed myself when formulating OmegaVive.

Rather than fish sourced from industrial fish farms that use antibiotics, GMOs, and other chemicals, the fish oil in OmegaVive comes from Anchovies found in the pristine waters of Peru.

OmegaVive also uses clean extraction technology and special types of capsules to improve absorption 300%. This also means you need only two servings per day, rather than the 10 capsules you’d need of store bought fish oil to achieve the same benefits for your skin’s moisture and healthy glow.
